DESTE Foundation Project Space, Slaughterhouse

Alongside the DESTE Foundation’s year-round exhibition programme in Athens, the Foundation organises a series of seasonal projects beyond its main premises. In 2008, the Municipality of Hydra granted DESTE the island’s former slaughterhouse, a historic building that has been carefully restored while preserving many of its original architectural features.

Since 2009, the building has operated as the DESTE Project Space Slaughterhouse, hosting a summer programme of contemporary art exhibitions. Each year, the Foundation invites a single artist or collaborative team to develop a site-specific project that responds to the history and character of the space.
