Saalhof 1123
Rooted in a former monastic estate in Alsace dating back to 1123, SAALHOF 1123 is a multifaceted art space and farm initiated in 2023 by curator Jean-Claude v. Burg-Freymond. Spanning a rural country house and a medieval townhouse in Basel, the project bridges the gap between historical heritage and contemporary culture. Through thematic stagings, it presents a carefully selected portfolio of international designers, artists, brands and producers, bringing together traditional handicrafts with contemporary art and design, or folklore with fashion, books and music. By producing functional objects and farm-made goods, the initiative explores how we live and work today, fostering a unique dialogue between nature, urban settings, and artisanal excellence.
