Nils Stærk

Glentevej 49, 2400 København, Denmark

Founded in 1997, Nils Stærk is a Copenhagen-based contemporary art gallery with a strong international profile. It represents emerging, mid-career and established Danish and international artists working across a wide range of media, united by a conceptual approach that explores the values and conflicts of today's globalised society.

Since its beginnings, the gallery has built close collaborations worldwide, with a particular focus on the Central and Latin American art scene, and has worked with international institutions, biennials and galleries to develop new projects with its artists and place their work in significant collections. It has taken part in major art fairs including Art Basel, Art Basel Miami Beach, ARCO, Art Brussels, FIAC and Zona Maco.

After starting out in a small space in the warehouse district of Islands Brygge and later moving to a large venue at Carlsberg, in spring 2017 NILS STÆRK relocated to a 500-square-metre former car workshop in Copenhagen's Northwest district. The building retains its raw, industrial character, in striking contrast with the minimalist interior designed by Henning Larsen Architects. In 2024 the gallery opened a second space on a busy high street in the city centre, where large street-facing windows connect its exhibitions with the life of the city.
