Dialogue

Rua José Domingos Barreiros 15, Lisbon

Inspired by historical art salons, the gallery challenges conventional narratives with a punk-like attitude, persistently probing beneath the surface of an image-saturated world. With a distinctive approach to conceptual, material, and relational quality, the programme evolves organically, guided by artists’ needs and the collaborations that arise from them.

Contemporary art is approached as a field driven by dialogue: between artists and audiences, disciplines and ideas, and past and present. Each exhibition functions as a pretext for dialogue—an environment in which conversations take form, develop, and transform.

The concept of movement in space, informed by architectural thinking, played a decisive role in shaping the gallery’s origins. The experience of Dialoge 09 by Sasha Waltz & Guests during the opening of David Chipperfield’s Neues Museum in Berlin in 2009 prompted an interest in exploring intersections between creative disciplines.

From this impulse, the project “dialogue” was initiated. Its first iteration, “dialogue #01”, took place during ARCO Lisbon 2023 in Adriana Barreto’s studio in Marvila. The exhibition “Action Sculpture” examined the relationship between drawing, movement, sculpture, and choreography, establishing the foundations for a contemporary art gallery and platform for experimentation.

Based in Lisbon, with a main space in Marvila and a chapel project space in Belém, the gallery represents fourteen emerging and established Portuguese and international artists, while guest collaborators contribute to ongoing inclusivity and dynamism.

Alongside a regular exhibition and public programme, dialogue also serves as a resource for collectors, offering a structured and long-term approach to collection management. Additional projects bridge art and architecture through curating, fundraising, and the production of site-specific and interdisciplinary works.

Grounded in the creative process, the initiative prioritises authenticity in the making, performing, and presentation of art. In an increasingly digital environment, the gallery operates as a space for direct, in-person encounter—where lasting relationships and new collaborations continue to emerge.
