Maia Contemporary
Maia Contemporary’s mission is to promote, exhibit, and sell the work of young and emerging artists. The gallery regularly hosts dynamic intellectual events that foster discussions within the art world.
With a focus on both Mexican and international artists, the gallery has successfully organised exhibitions and public art projects. It is known for offering what it describes as “original visual experiences”, a noteworthy achievement.
Maia Contemporary is also distinguished by its commitment to supporting its artists. Beyond occasional social media outreach, the gallery undertakes extensive promotional efforts, including showcasing its artists’ work at international fairs and exhibitions, which form a central part of its activities.
The gallery is located in Casa Basalta, a building constructed in 1910 and remodelled by architect Rodrigo Lastra. The venue also features an events forum, a meditation centre, restaurants, shops, and offices. Positioned just below Rio de Janeiro Square and near the MODO Museum on Colima Street, it sits at the heart of Roma’s vibrant arts district—an area to which Maia Contemporary has been a significant contributor.
