Sikkema Jenkins & Co. exhibits works of art in a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, installation, photography, video, and sculpture. The gallery’s program includes important established artists such as Tony Feher, Arturo Herrera, Sheila Hicks, Vik Muniz, Amy Sillman, and Kara Walker. In addition, the gallery seeks to support the careers of emerging talent such as Josephine Halvorson, Marc Handelman, Elizabeth Neel, and Erin Shirreff.
The gallery was founded in 1991 by Brent Sikkema. Originally called Wooster Gardens, the gallery was located on Wooster Street in SoHo. In 1999 the gallery moved to its present location in Chelsea, which later underwent extensive renovation and expansion. Michael Jenkins worked on several projects starting the year the gallery was founded, officially joining the gallery as director in 1996 and becoming senior partner in 2003. Meg Malloy joined the gallery in 2002 and is now a partner.
