Founded in 2016 by artist Didier Courbot and landscape designer Stéphanie Courbot, A1043 initially focused on 20th-century lighting. Since 2017, the gallery has developed a programme of monographic and thematic projects, commissions, and presentations of contemporary design.

Its selection considers design and craftsmanship across periods, with a particular interest in objects characterised by conceptual, formal, or sculptural qualities.
