Galerie Urs Meile
Galerie Urs Meile is internationally recognised as a pioneering gallery fostering contemporary art across China and Europe, while promoting meaningful cultural exchange between the two regions.
Founded in Lucerne in 1992, the gallery was among the first Western institutions to engage with China, initiating activities there in 1995 and establishing a permanent space in Beijing in 2005, now under the directorship of René Meile. Under Karin Seiz-Meile’s leadership, Galerie Urs Meile expanded its Swiss presence with the opening of an exhibition space on Rämistrasse in Zurich in 2023, followed in 2025 by a new headquarters on Ankerstrasse, marking the gallery’s full transition from Lucerne to Zurich. An additional exhibition space in Ardez, in the Engadin region of the Swiss Alps, completes its Swiss locations.
With a strong presence in both Switzerland and China, the gallery maintains a diverse and forward-looking programme, representing artists across generations and media, including painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and video. Galerie Urs Meile presents 14 to 16 exhibitions annually across its four spaces in Zurich, Beijing, and Ardez.
Committed to long-term collaboration with artists and collectors, the gallery supports sustained artistic development and cross-cultural dialogue, contributing to an international art landscape shaped by diverse voices and perspectives.
