Hebel_121
For more than 20 years Hebel_121 has been a meeting place for an international art audience, while catching the eye of busy passers-by every day.
Hebel_121 is an art space in Basel dedicated to site-specific and contemporary artistic practices. Founded by Gerda Maise and Daniel Göttin, the venue has occupied a former bakery since 1998, which serves as both a residence and a studio for its founders. The programme showcases five to six exhibitions a year, driven by a commitment to artistic quality and the discovery of new voices. Artists are offered the opportunity to create installations in a prominent street-facing space, paired with exhibitions in an intimate rear gallery known as the Kabinett.
The exhibitions encompass painting, sculpture, object art, and site-specific spatial or video installations. These remain visible to the public through large display windows day and night, aiming to sensitise passers-by and an international audience to contemporary aesthetics. Having established an international network through residencies and projects abroad, the space continues its activities with the support of a foundation grant.
