Independent Art Space

Vernacular Institute

Calle Sabino 276, Sta María la Ribera, Cuauhtémoc

Vernacular is an independent, non-profit institution led by curator Jo Ying Peng. Originally based in Taipei and now established in Mexico City, it fosters bilateral dialogue between Latin American and Asian artists.

Vernacular is a curatorial house that generates, presents, and exchanges ideas that challenge institutional discourse. It serves as an evolving space for experimentation, shaped by the engagement of each artist. The projects, which emphasise performative approaches and collaborative programming, are framed by a curatorial narrative that explores how art responds to contemporary socio-political issues such as labour, borders, feminism, and resistance.
