Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Gl Strandvej 13, 3050 Humlebæk, Denmark

With more than 700,000 visitors each year, Louisiana is the most visited museum of modern and contemporary art in Scandinavia. Internationally recognised for its exhibitions and ever-growing collection, as well as its dynamic and vibrant cultural programme, it is often hailed as one of the most beautiful museums in the world, thanks to its harmonious architecture and scenic location.

Designed in the restrained modernist style of the late 1950s, the museum is a horizontal, understated complex that fits gracefully and intimately into the landscape. Since its opening, the museum has expanded considerably through seven extensions and alterations carried out by the architects Bo and Wohlert, while maintaining its integration with the surrounding park.

Since opening in 1958, the museum has presented high-quality international art and culture to visitors in Humlebæk. Its aim has always been to reach a large and diverse audience with an equally broad and varied selection of art and culture from the 20th and 21st centuries.
