The Flying Saucer
A cultural hub and exhibition space in Sharjah
Constructed in the mid-1970s, this architectural landmark housed different businesses, such as a one-stop-shop including a restaurant, a tobacconist, a gift shop, and more. The Sharjah Art Foundation acquired it in 2012, to turn it into an exhibition venue. After some renovation works began in 2018, the new Flying Saucer reopened on September 26, 2020.
The building is now a multi-purpose cultural hub for the community: it features an open-air courtyard filled with vegetation, a multi-activity café, a curated library, and several “pods”. All these spaces host a varied cultural and exhibition programme also including film screenings, workshops, performances, readings, convenings, hands-on activities.
