EMST – National Museum of Contemporary Art
EMΣT | National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens is Greece’s leading institution for contemporary art and visual culture, and one of the flagship museums in Southern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. Founded in 2000, it initially operated as a nomadic institution while its permanent home – the former FIX brewery, a landmark of industrial modernism – was transformed into a contemporary art museum. It moved into the building in 2015 and fully opened to the public in 2020.
EMΣT collects, preserves, researches and exhibits contemporary Greek and international art. Through exhibitions, publications and free educational and public programmes, it promotes artistic innovation, critical engagement and experimentation. The museum also supports Greek contemporary art internationally through initiatives such as the International Curators Visiting Programme, the Residency Programme and the Mentorship Programme for emerging artists and curators. By fostering dialogue and the exchange of ideas, EMΣT connects local and international communities while enriching public engagement with contemporary art.
