Messner Mountain Museum
MMM Corones, located on the summit of Kronplatz at 2,275 metres, is dedicated to the history of traditional alpinism, its equipment and its underlying mindset. As the final chapter in a network of six Messner Mountain Museums, it examines mountaineering not as an act of heroism but as an encounter with the mountain grounded in discipline, technology and inner resolve. The surrounding Dolomite panorama forms an integral part of the experience, linking pioneering spirit with philosophical reflection.
Designed by Zaha Hadid, the museum is embedded in the rock, its concrete forms opening towards the surrounding peaks. Inside, equipment, documents, artworks and relics are presented along architectural axes that frame the mountain landscape, creating a dialogue between alpinism and design.
The visit is conceived as a quiet, focused experience, free of distraction, offering space for observation and contemplation. What remains is a renewed sense of respect for the history of alpinism and for the individuals who shaped it.
