V&A East Storehouse
V&A East Storehouse is a public space in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London, offering access to more than 600,000 objects, books and archives from the Victoria and Albert Museum’s collections. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro with Austin-Smith, the four-level space occupies part of the former London 2012 Olympics Media Centre and provides a view into the work of a museum, from collecting and conservation to research and display.
The central Weston Collections Hall features more than 100 displays integrated into storage racks, presenting objects that span 5,000 years of human creativity. Highlights include a complete interior designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, a 15th-century gilded wooden ceiling from Spain’s Torrijos Palace, and works exploring east London’s artistic and social history. The programme also includes workshops, performances, screenings and collaborative projects developed with local communities. Through the Order an Object service, visitors can book to examine selected objects up close, while archives dedicated to art, design, theatre and music offer further insight into creative practices. The collection includes the David Bowie archive, as well as material relating to Glastonbury Festival, Talawa Theatre Company and musicians such as PJ Harvey, The Who and The Rolling Stones.
