Museo Frida Kahlo
The Casa Azul is Frida Kahlo’s intimate universe. She spent most of her life here, first with her family and later with Diego Rivera. The house also hosted notable national and international figures, drawn by the magnetism of the two painters.
Frida and Diego wished to leave their home as a museum for all Mexicans to enjoy. After Frida’s death, their friend, museographer and poet Carlos Pellicer, planned the museum’s design. The administration was entrusted to the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museums Trust, established by Rivera in 1957 and overseen by the Bank of Mexico.
Since its inauguration in July 1958, the Casa Azul and its gardens have displayed personal items and paintings by both artists, alongside folk art, pre-Columbian sculptures, photographs, documents, books, and furniture that formed the environment inspiring Frida’s creativity.
