Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature
The museum exposes the relationship between man and animal through the ages, relying on an exceptional collections of ancient, modern and contemporary art
Inaugurated by André Malraux in 1967 in the 17th-century Hôtel de Guénégaud, The Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature expanded in 2007 to the adjacent 18th-century Hôtel de Mongelas.
This private museum, awarded the “Musée de France” label, explores the evolving relationship between humans and animals through a unique museography that blends ancient, modern, and contemporary art. Under the long-time curatorship of Claude dʼAnthenaise, the museum has shifted focus from hunting to a broader exploration of human-animal relationships. The permanent collections mix art with naturalised animals, while temporary exhibitions, renewed two or three times a year, offer contemporary artistic perspectives and enrich the visitor experience.
