Musée Guimet
The Musée Guimet is home to one of the world’s finest collections of Asian art, spanning 7,000 years of history. Originally established in Lyon, the museum moved to Paris and became home to an exceptional collection spanning Asia from Afghanistan to Japan. From the 1920s, archaeological expeditions and scientific missions greatly enriched its holdings, later complemented by major collections transferred from the Louvre in 1945. Across 5,500 square metres, more than 60,000 works explore the cultures of Asia, from Afghanistan to Japan and from India to South-East Asia. Sculpture, ceramics, paintings, textiles, jewellery and more offer a remarkable journey from the Neolithic era to today. The museum also presents exhibitions, performances, talks and workshops connecting Asian heritage with contemporary culture.
