Academy of Fine Arts in Prague – AVU Gallery

The Academy of Fine Arts, Prague (AVU) was founded in 1799 and is the Czech Republic’s oldest art college.

For twenty years the AVU Gallery has provided mainly students of the Academy a test space for exhibitions and curatorial concepts. Students have the opportunity to organise an exhibition from scratch: they put together a project, install the exhibition, organise the accompanying events, and de-install the exhibition. The GAVU plays host to some 20 exhibitions a year in premises spread over 128 m2. There are also opportunities for exchanges between Czech and foreign art schools. By introducing the general public to the creative potential of AVU, the gallery receives feedback regarding the Academy’s activities.
