Museu Bispo do Rosário Arte Contemporânea (mBrac)
The Museu Bispo do Rosário Arte Contemporânea was born to preserve and promote the work of Arthur Bispo do Rosário, one of the most important Brazilian contemporary artists.
The Museu Bispo do Rosário Arte Contemporânea (mBrac) is located in the Instituto Municipal de Assistência à Saúde Juliano Moreira, a mental health complex known as “Colônia” in Taquara, on the West part of Rio de Janeiro. It is responsible for preserving, conserving and disseminating the works of Arthur Bispo do Rosário – one of the greatest representatives of Brazilian contemporary art renowned both nationally and internationally.
In the four halls of Colônia’s main building and in the Pólo Experimental– a space dedicated to educational activities – mBrac showcases free-of-charge exhibitions and offers a range of educational programs aimed at people of all ages. A visit to mBrac, located in Colônia’s Cultural Area, also includes the Núcleo Histórico Rodrigues Caldas, a remnant of a 17th Century mill, and the premises of Pavillion 10 of Núcleo Ulisses Vianna, where Bispo do Rosário lived and used as a studio.
