Pinacoteca nazionale di Sassari

Piazza Santa Caterina, 4, 07100 Sassari SS, Italy

Located in the historic centre of Sassari, the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Sassari houses the largest public art collection in Sardinia, with more than 400 works spanning the thirteenth to the twenty-first century. Opened in 2008, the museum occupies the former Canopoleno College, a historic building originally constructed by the Jesuits between the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Its collection, enriched through important private donations, includes medieval and Renaissance masterpieces, paintings by Italian and European artists, a significant group of works by nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Sardinian artists, and an extensive collection of prints and drawings. Together, these holdings offer a comprehensive overview of the island's artistic heritage within the broader context of European art history.
