Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna
Maria-Theresien-Platz, 1010 Wien, Austria
The Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna is one of the largest and most important museums in the world; it was founded by Emperor Franz Joseph to house the imperial collections and holds an enormous artistic heritage. Objects spanning five millennia, from the Egyptian era through ancient Greece to the end of the 18th century, testify to the Habsburgs’ passion for collecting. Particular interest is shown in Renaissance and Baroque art. A highlight for visitors is the sumptuous architecture of the museum located on the Ringstraße and the pictorial cycle displayed in the imposing stairwell.
