Atea
Atea is a multidisciplinary and collaborative platform of production and experimentation.
The art space promotes practices that push for the reinvention of shared imaginaries within urban environments. It is an open space for collective creation and the exchange of knowledge.
Situated in one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Mexico City, La Merced—often stereotyped in mainstream media for its associations with commerce, prostitution, and violence—Atea aims to catalyse production processes and challenge the roles of modern consumption through exhibitions, residencies, workshops, and artistic and architectural research practices.
Founded in December 2010, Atea seeks to foster and generate cross-disciplinary dialogue that responds to current social conditions across various fields, including architecture, contemporary art, film, music, textiles, ceramics, graphic production, and urban art. Additionally, it strives to extend these practices to community participation and collective creation.
