MARe (Muzeul de Artă Recentă/ Museum of Recent Art)

MARe is the first and only museum displaying a permanent collection of contemporary Romanian art, not only in Bucharest, but in Romania too. It fills a gap and a need, voiced by culture-consumers searching for a place to see the art of the past 50 years in a permanent show. MARe is the only place where an insight into the problems, the ideology, the stylistic development and the relevant names of Romanian art since 1960s could be grasped by local and foreign public.

MARe is the only edifice in Romania specially and professionally designed as a museum. It is the first and biggest private collection of current Romanian art open to the public. MARe embodies the recuperration of the artistic sphere by the private, liberal, individual eye and mind, drawing a platform for a new, identity-feeding narrative consciously negociating between the disputed notions of “progress” and “conservation”.
