The MACAO Pavilion during 57th Venice Biennale features “A Bonsai of My Dream – Works by Wong Cheng Pou”, an exhibition curated by Ng Fong Chao with new works by local artist Wong Cheng Pou.

The title suggests the artist’s intention to cultivate his dreams as a bonsai, like ancient Chinese literati did, planting miniatures in small pots to reflects their desire of simple and elegant spiritual life.

The show displays 17 works and, among them, three-dimensional works, painting, photographs and mainly composed by Chinese deities and  figures inspired by Shan Hai Jing (The Classic of Mountains and Seas), a Chinese milestone about religion, history, geography and species of Ancient China. Comparing the China of two millennium ago with the city where he currently lives, the artist presents his observations, feelings and imagination.
