“Baselitz Academy” is a major retrospective leading visitors through over sixty years of the German artist’s career. Georg Baselitz (Kamenz, 1938) is the first contemporary artist to be the protagonist of a retrospective at Gallery dell’Accademia: a painter, sculptor and graphic artist, he became well known for his figurative, expressive paintings. Drawing from a myriad of influences, including art of Soviet era illustration art, the Mannerist period and African sculptures, he developed his own, distinct artistic language.
