Jan Fabre: Glass and Bone Sculptures 1977 – 2017
Curators Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, Katerina Koskina and Dimitri Ozerkov selected a series of works in glass and bone from the 1977 to 2017 made by the Belgian artist Jan Fabre, on show at the Abbazia di San Gregorio as Collateral Event of the 57th Venice Biennale.
Jan Fabre has always been interested in alchemy and memory of materials. With this body of works, brought together for the fist time, the artist pays homage to Flemish painters, for their mastery in pulverized bones to obtain pigments, and to Venetian glassblowers. The raw materials chosen by Fabre are both strong and fragile, protective and functional but at same time flexible and able to assume any kind of form. This is reason why the artist is fascinated by them.
