Kan Yasuda: Isole del Silenzio
The Fondation d’Entreprise Wilmotte presents “Kan Yasuda – Isole del Silenzio (Islands of Silence)”, an official Collateral Event of La Biennale Arte 2026. The exhibition features the work of Japanese artist Kan Yasuda, who creates a mineral garden intended as an inner landscape of silence and simplicity. Renowned for his mastery of stone, Yasuda produces marble sculptures of refined sobriety that resonate with the architectural space.
The exhibition draws on the Japanese concept of “Ma” (interval or space), where the void is an active element that balances form and non-form. A video titled “Oltre la forma (Beyond Form)” introduces the artist’s sculpting process. In the main gallery, ten sculptures are arranged as “islands” on a white floor within a darkened environment. These oval and circular forms, some featuring cavities, encourage introspection and capture light differently according to the viewer’s perspective. The exhibition design and lighting, conceived by Agence Wilmotte, use grazing light and focused beams to enhance the sense of suspension. The presentation explores the dialogue between fullness and emptiness, aiming to create a state of equilibrium and a space for contemplation where the void carries the same weight as the solid.
