Peter Hujar: Portraits in Life and Death

Peter Hujar is one of the most important American photographers of the twentieth century. Since his death from AIDS-related complications in 1987 at the age of 53, his work has received widespread acclaim. Featuring all 41 photographs from his book “Portraits in Life and Death,” published in 1976, the collection captures iconic cultural figures of 1970s New York alongside haunting images from the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo, exploring themes of mortality and identity.
