Shirin Neshat: The Home of my Eyes
The Written Art Foundation supports the exhibition of the works of Shirin Neshat at the Museo Correr in Venice on the occasion of the 57th Venice Biennale.
The Iranian-born artist explores through her photographic works the complexity of cultural identity encompassing Persian traditions.
Her more recent work The Home of My Eyes, born from her interest in portrait painting, discloses cultural dynamics and personal stories of the photographed persons.
During the time she spent in Azerbaijan in 2014, Neshat takes pictures of 55 people, men and women of different age and municipalities of the country, asking about their concept of identity and home. The responses are written in the calligraphy superimposing the portraits.
The artist herself considers her series as the portrait of a country, a tapestry of human faces revealing the rich cultural history of Azerbaijan and its diversity.
