Presented by Caravane Foundation
Caravane Foundation’s architects Simoń Velez and Stefana Simić in Colombia, in collaboration with Ahmed Chmitti and the Boujad Women’s Weaving Collective in Morocco, designed simultaneously 100%-handmade Majlis in two different continents. The two structures are made of bamboo and wool, among the most renewable materials on earth. On the occasion of the 2021 Architecture Biennale, for the first time a Majlis has been assembled at the Church of San Giorgio Maggiore among a wildflower garden planted by landscape Todd Longstaffe-Gowan. In this context, it will be the stage for storytelling, symposia, and exchange, to discuss the question posed by the 2021 Biennale Curator Hashim Sarkis: How will we live together?
