The SKYWALK by Platform Earth
The exhibition envisions a future in which art, architecture, and science collaborate to redefine how cities interact with their natural landscapes.
Conceived by artist Petroc Sesti and developed in partnership with RSHP and local partners, the Skywalk is a visionary proposal for an elevated walkway above the Venetian Lagoon’s biodiverse yet largely inaccessible salt marshes. This proposed walkway will provide an immersive experience, inviting visitors to engage with one of Europe’s most beautiful biodiverse wetlands, providing an unparalleled educational journey over the intricate tidal channels and turquoise waterways of le barnene and seagrass habitats. Designed to highlight the rich ornithological biodiversity of the area, the walkway, anchored by an island will host a cultural and scientific gallery, creating a destination for Venetians and visitors alike.
The exhibit also features Sesti’s Tree Beacon, a large-scale sculptural work selected by curator Nadja Romain and placed near La Fucina del Futuro and Ocean Space in Campo San Lorenzo. This artwork symbolises the urgent need for a permanent connection between culture and conservation, emphasising how creative visions can unite public attention with scientific efforts to restore and protect the natural world.
