Helvetia Art Prize 2017

Burgweg 15

The Prize, promoted by Helvetia, aims to help graduated students of Swiss Universities of “Visual and Media Art” in launching their careers. The Prize is open to all disciplines to support and enhance new forms of art. The company’s collection features works of painting, drawing and photography which are the most representative of Swiss contemporary art.

As in the previous years, the winner of the Helvetia Art Prize exhibits at the international art fair LISTE, Art Fair Basel. The winner of the 2017 edition is Andriu Deplazes, born in 1993, who explores through large scale paintings his ambiguous imagery made by androgynous bodies set in heavenly or apocalyptic landscapes.

The jury for the 2017 Art Prize includes:
Kathleen Bühler (Curator of the Contemporary Art Department, Kunstmuseum Bern),
Olivier Kaeser (Co-Director of the Centre culturel suisse, Paris),
Andreas Karcher (Head of the Helvetia Specialist Art Unit),
Nathalie Loch (Curator of the Helvetia Art Collection),
Peter Stohler (Director of Kunst Zeug Haus Rapperswil),
Judith Welter (Director of Kunsthaus Glarus).

The Helvetia Art Prize was judged as part of the Plattform 17 exhibition which had taken place in February 2017 at the Kunsthaus Glarus.
