Dubai Design Week
The inaugural Dubai Design Week will not only turn the city into a week-long showcase of ground-breaking design, but will also be underpinned by a diverse 6-day programme of talks, hands-on workshops and panel discussions giving all ages and interests the opportunity to discover and engage with design. The core programme takes place at d3 and Downtown Design and is free to attend, on a first come first serve basis.

Keynote Talk: Tuesday 27 October | 7.30pm – 8.30pm
Humberto Campana, co-founder of Brazilian furniture pioneers Estudio Campana, talks about the professional trajectory of the Campana Brothers and their work with NGOs.
Children’s Workshops: Friday 30 October | 10am – 11.50am
Children will start to understand the basic principles of electricity through a playful creative experience in an open workshop, by playing with dough and bringing creations to life with electronics.
Talk: Media – Facts – Fiction: Thursday 29 October | 2pm – 5pm
Suzanne Trocmé, editor at large of Wallpaper*, leads a journalism discussion and workshop in which leading international journalists explore the design magazine industry.
Workshop: Modular Arabic Letters: Tuesday 27 October | 10am – 2pm
Graphic and type designer Lara Assouad leads a hands-on exploration of structure, proportion and repetition in Arabic letters through the creation of experimental modular letterforms using cut-outs, stamps, stencils and other manual methods.
Panel Discussion: Wednesday 28 October | 5.30pm – 7pm
Directors of design weeks San Francisco, Istanbul, Beijing, Mexico, Helsinki, Melbourne, and Dubai, discuss how a design week activates the city.
Curator’s Talk: Thursday29 October | 5.30pm – 7pm
Brendan McGetrick, curator of the Global Grad Show, explains his philosophy of design, how it influenced his selections for the exhibition, and what it says about design’s role in the world today.
