Florence Biennale

The most important art event in the city, the Biennale is a free, independent, and innovative ‘platform’ for contemporary art.

Fortezza da Basso, Viale Filippo Strozzi, 1, 50129, Florence, Italy

The major exhibition for contemporary art and design in the city, the Florence Biennale is regarded as one of the most important biennials all over the world.

Florence Biennale is a comprehensive showcase of international art and design production, animating the community every two years, concurrently with a list of collateral events, performances, exhibitions, workshops, and lectures.

In each edition, two International Juries of art and design professionals from different countries confer the ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ and the ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ Awards to the best exhibitors competing in different categories. Over the years, the initiative has seen the participation of thousands of artists from over a hundred countries, aiming to establish a cross-cultural creative dialogue.

Furthermore, Lifetime Achievement Awards are conferred to individuals who have reached pinnacles of artistic achievement. Amongst the award recipients of the past editions, mention should be made of Marina Abramović, David Hockney, Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Gilbert & George, Anish Kapoor, and Franco Zeffirelli.

The 13th edition will take place from 23 to 31 October 2021 at the Fortezza da Basso, Viale Filippo Strozzi, 1, 50129, Florence, Italy
