SOHO 189 Events

189 Queen's Road West, Sheung Wan

To celebrate its 1st year anniversary and the beginning of the Hong Kong Art Week, SOHO 189 Art Lane provides collectors with a special preview of the featured exhibitions to be held concurrently to the Hong Kong Art Week. The four galleries present an impactful and diverse selection of artworks and special installations from Italy, Spain, Germany, France and China. With all of the artists having travelled from around the world to be present for the celebration and with highly ambitious installations on show, this is a special opportunity for collectors to immerse themselves in art before visiting Art Basel in Hong Kong and Art Central openings. Accompanying this exhibitions, VA Bene and La Paloma will host special art menus.

Pearl Lam Galleries presents China Clean, an exhibition of sculptural designs by Italian designer and entrepreneur Enrico Marone Cinzano. The exhibition will comprise eight pieces of luxury, sustainable furniture, many of which have been created in response to the designers visits to China, as well as exploration of its culture and connection with nature and the environment.

Right next door, Galerie Huit will showcase Everything is and isn’t at the same time by renowned international collective Troika. The gallery will present signature two-dimensional works and sculptures made from a wide array of media including soot, dice and electricity. At the centre of the gallery will hang “The Sum of all Possibilities”, a sculpture characterized by an apparent infinite metamorphosis which is in reality a 12-minutes loop with a limited number of combinations, recalling the usual circular path of the viewer around the object.

Around the corner, at Leo Gallery, Chinese artist Zhang Lehua’s will present his latest series “All About”, in the exhibition True Exist Void. Zhang, in recent years, has adopted the interaction between moving images and painting as infiltrated media in his creation. When working on his paintings, the artist threw himself into a film projected on the wall and attempted to depict it. Whilst the video was played on the wall covered with canvas, he started to sketch the change of the video scenes. His work can be regarded as dynamic drawing (xiesheng).

Anamnesis: the reasoned doubt with works by María García Ibañez and Javier León Pérez will be displayed at Puerta Roja on the 1st Floor. Curated by Pilar Cano Romero, the exhibition presents a brand new series of works stemming from a collaboration between the two young Spanish artists that have captured the imagination of collectors across Asia Pacific. In addition to individual works categorized by the almost obsessive detailed techniques of each artist and a joint edition series specially made for Puerta Roja, the artists and curator will intervene Puerta Roja’s whole gallery space to create an immersive environment.
