Artist Fernando Laposse is the beneficiary of the Miami Design District‘s 2019 Neighborhood Commission. The Mexican artist presents the installation “Pink Beasts”, highlighting Laposse’s resolute advocacy for sustainable craft traditions.
Created in collaboration with the fiber artist Angela Damman and artisans in Sacabah, Yucatán, the immersive installation engages visitors in the rediscovery of the natural world.
The project revolves around organic colours, in particular, the one extracted from cochineal. This is an insect original of Mexico, commonly known to produce the world’s brightest natural red dye, originally used by the Aztecs to tint their artifacts.
