Latinx Art Sessions
The two-day programme Latinx Art Sessions, taking place on January 24-25, 2019, focuses on the theme of Latinx art and on the conversations which arise around it especially in the local area, mediated through Miami’s particular social, cultural, economic and political lens.
The term Latinx is an inclusive word initially included to discard the binary meaning embedded in the Spanish term Latino/a: in this case, it references a heterogeneous group of artists with Latin American descent but whose practice is informed by a lived U.S. experience, who address in their practices issues related with multilingualism, creolization, migration and shifting identities rooted in multiple cultures. The Latinx Art Sessions bring together artist and professionals of the field to develop and further enhance dialogue and research around these topics, as Latinx keep to gain visibility nationwide. The programme is led by South Florida’s cultural arts leaders ArtCenter/South Florida and Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM).
