: Dying on Stage

Taking Rudolf Nureyev’s classical ballet “La Bayadèr”e as a starting point, the lecture-performance by Christodoulos Panayiotou – a Cypriot artist whose works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and at Documenta in Kassel – reflects on the impossibility of representing death on stage. In a hybrid form, different materials, including video clips, opera extracts, concerts, and interviews, are juxtaposed creating conceptual links. An archive in the making that covers more than a century of dance history, moving fluidly and spectacularly between Greek tragedy and television programs. A declaration of love to the art of performance.
