The Club House
The Club House is the first edition of an itinerant music club dedicated to exploring the original and primitive house music within the context of design. House, as it was conceived in the 80s, is a phenomenon that escapes a narrow framing. Rather, it shapes a worldview, a radical approach to music, society and culture. As such, House can be seen as a space, a platform, a framework.
Taking this as their starting point, Tankboys have taken the lens of design to take a look at the shape of house music today. As Ettore Sottsass famously suggested back in the 1960s, more than a final result, design is a process, a tool used to examine and dissect the world that surrounds us. As such, it is only natural and expected for design to build relationships with other disciplines, often engaging with the worlds of art, architecture, cinema, fashion, or food. Using design as a language through which to build a dialogue with the world, Tankboys have shaped a project that brings together music and design.
During Salone del Mobile – from 14 to 17 April 2016 – Tankboys will take over the space at Gigantic gallery, transforming it in a temporary club dedicated to house music, each day presenting an exciting co-host of musicians and DJs. Tankboys’ exhibition at Gigantic follows the invitation by Laura Lecce and Fabrizio Vatieri, the curators of Pelagica, a project aimed at exploring the culture of the Mediterranean with headquarters at the gallery.
The setting of the club, on the other hand, waves together the necessity to build a mobile, flexible, easily transportable objects – that can be re-used in itinerant settings of the Club House – with the theme of the project. Designed entirely by Tankboys, the project will feature objects that fuse functionality with reference to the context they are designed for, creating possible departure points for future iterations of the project.
The event takes place at Galleria Gigantic in via Termopili 28, 20127 Milano, froml 14 to 17 aprile 2016, everyday from 5pm to 12am.
