The Histories of Performance. The many performances of the dancing bodies. From Merce Cunningham to Lady Gaga

Five authorial and informative lessons to recount the evolution of a language that has been able to go through the last decades of with great creativity.

Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo – MAXXI presents “The Histories of Performance. The many performances of the dancing bodies. From Merce Cunningham to Lady Gaga”, a dance performance that affects the visible and evokes the invisible. The physical body and the sensitive body of the performer are directly involved, together with those of the audience. The result is a unique, capable and significant organism.
MAXXI displays other five authorial and informative lessons, where the body of the artist and their actions became central to live art practice, gradually finding their own lexicon within the performance vocabulary. Performance here becomes the medium through which generations of artists have explored and experimented with the link between the performative dimension and the language of theatre, music, film, the body and nature.
