Nazareno: Uma vez de olhos abertos, abra-os novamente
On October 27th, Nazareno (b. 1967, São Paulo) launches his new book, Uma vez de olhos abertos, abra-os novamente [Once With Open Eyes, Open Them Again], at Emma Thomas gallery. The book was edited by the artist himself and comprises the documentation of the works developed by him from 1998 to 2015. The limited editioned book has one thousand copies and also comprises a selection of authorial texts and materials from his private collection.
Nazareno has a degree in visual arts from Brasília University. With his artworks, he approaches themes regarding memory, childhood, fairy tales, narrative, and the fragility of contemporary subjects in face of the impossibility of transcendence. Created in several media, such as drawing, sculpture, installation, video and print, his miniature pieces aim to capture the attention of the spectator by showing other realities, often by conducting the adult viewer to a position of estrangement due to his placement in a childlike position. He has extensively exhibited in Brazil and abroad over the last 20 years, and his works are included in collections such as MAM Rio, MAM SP, Instituto Itaú Cultural, Instituto Tomie Ohtake, and others.
