Practices of Attention: International Symposium
The 33rd São Paulo Biennial, titled “Affective Affinities“, have commissioned in partnership with Sesc-SP, the international symposium “Practices of Attention“. The event, taking place November 16-18, 2018, gathers key artists, scientists, critics, writers, and scholars to discuss the urgent topic of attention, in relation to its modes, conditions, and challenges in current days.
Since the Biennial’s focus is the need to restate the power of art, the three-day symposium aims to discuss the importance of economies of attention in respect of audiences’ relationship to it. As attention is the basis of understanding and action, fundamental questions such as the role of new technologies and practices in shaping modern perception and the consequences of changes in attentional behaviors on learning, politics, and social existence are to be addressed. The programme of the symposium is conceived by D. Graham Burnett and Stefanie Hessler and includes talks, workshops, and performances, departing from recent theoretical work, historical recoveries, and experimental investigations.
Attendance by registration only.
