Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light

Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Island of San Giorgio Maggiore

The fourth edition of the Homo Faber Biennial, titled “Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light”, celebrates human talent in the creative transformation of materials and contemporary artistic craftsmanship. Under the artistic direction of Es Devlin, the exhibition showcases the work of hundreds of master artisans and craft artists from around the world. The concept focuses on light as a primordial force and an essential tool for creation, highlighting the skill of international creators across 15 exhibition spaces.

The narrative journey begins at the workplace recreation “A Language of Hands” and continues through installations such as “An Index of Artisans” and “An Alphabet of Objects”, where light and shadow evoke an ideographic language. Other sections explore the connection between craftsmanship and the biosphere, such as “A Library of Lungs” and “A Full Moon Rising”, which features traditional Korean moon jars. The exhibition also includes “An Atelier Alive”, a space where masters of ceramics, glass, and textiles share their processes with the public. Further installations, including “An Infinite Birdsong” and “A Feast of Light”, pay tribute to the architectural heritage of the venue and the transformative power of the spectrum. The event is supported by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship in collaboration with the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte.
