Le Pavillon Breton
The 2026 Venice Biennale features the inaugural Breizh Pavillon, a project designed to foreshadow a larger manifestation in 2028. The exhibition highlights artists who represent Breton identity through the themes of sailing, music, and enchantment. For this edition, the pavilion takes the form of a floating, sailing vessel. Accompanied by a musical ensemble, the boat is visible during the professional preview days and opening weekend, navigating between its home port at San Giorgio Maggiore, St Mark’s Basin, and the canals.
Morgane Tschiember occupies the boat-sculpture “L’ingénue”, created by Joachim Monvoisin, decorating the mast with two banners: one representing a head of hair in tribute to the legendary blonde hair of Venetians, and another featuring the “Kroas Du”, the ancient black-crossed Breton banner. Through these works, the artist symbolically unites Venice and Armorica. The boat also features artefacts such as masthead arrows and weathervanes designed by Monvoisin, serving as a floating theatre and a space for communal discussion. Furthermore, Erwan Keravec and his quartet “Sonneurs” perform at various locations near the Giardini. The project is supported by DRAC Bretagne, ADAGP, and Artagon-Enowe.
