The Galeazze Project by Faustin Linyekula
On 5 and 6 May 2026, the Galeazze at the Arsenale Nord in Venice will host The Galeazze Project, a performance by Faustin Linyekula in collaboration with musician Heru Shabaka-Ra, curated by Edoardo Lazzari.
The project is developed in response to the architecture of the Galeazze, engaging with their scale and material characteristics as key elements of the work. Originally used for the construction of the Serenissima’s fleet, the monumental naves are reactivated as a site for artistic production. The figure of the còdega—the Venetian bearer of light—emerges as one of the project’s references, with light conceived as a choreographic device that orients perception and shapes relationships between bodies and space.
Linyekula, founder of Studios Kabako in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of the Congo, works across choreography, storytelling and music, often addressing colonial histories and political transformation. The project involves local performers and musicians in a site-based collaboration, forming a temporary working environment in which rehearsals and performances coexist.
