FORT Biennale 2026: Reclaiming Collective

The second edition of FORT Biennale unfolds as a journey through four chapters. Curated by Hannes Egger, Andrea Lerda and Veronica Vascotto, the exhibition brings contemporary artistic practices into dialogue with the monumental military spaces of Franzensfeste Fortress, creating encounters between new perspectives and a historic architectural setting.

The central theme of the 2026 edition is togetherness. Reclaiming Collective responds to some of the most pressing challenges of the present, including the escalation of conflicts, the spread of authoritarian systems, the climate crisis, human rights issues, and the impact of digitalisation on social relationships. The exhibition is based on the idea that alternative forms of coexistence are not only possible but already emerging, and that rethinking humanity as part of a single global community is essential for the future.

Conceived as a creative, interactive and open platform, the biennale offers a space for exploring alternative imaginaries beyond dominant contemporary paradigms. It encourages collective imagination, empathy, listening and participation, while promoting alliances and mutual support as alternatives to individualistic social models.

The exhibition features works by around twenty Italian and international artists, with a particular focus on the creative scene of the Tyrol–South Tyrol–Trentino Euregio. Organised into four sections – Think, Play, Dance and Act – the exhibition is presented in dialogue with contributions from researchers at Eurac Research. The project also includes the participation of the Alpine Changemaker Network and a programme of performances and musical events involving numerous musicians and music groups.
