Carlos Amorales: The Factory
The monographic exhibition offers wide insight into the artistic research of the internationally renown Mexican artist
The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam hosts the first European comprehensive survey dedicated to Carlos Amorales. “Carlos Amorales – The Factory“ spans the Mexican artist’s entire career, from the early experiments in the 1990s to the most recent pieces and a work especially-created for the exhibition. 14 rooms of the museum display installations, paintings, drawings, videos, prints, textiles, animations, and sound works, along with open and non-chronological, large-scale spatial pieces, exploring the fields of tension between individuals and society.
One of the most interesting contemporary artists from Mexico, Amorales conducts his artistic research working across the means of language and communication, with a special focus on those signs that are mainly not codified, such as sounds, gestures, and symbols. He experiments with different forms of translation, playing on the borders between image and sign.
