Akram Zaatari: Against Photography.

The exhibition focuses on the work of the Arab Image Foundation (Beirut, Lebanon) which operates both as an archive of photographic and collecting practices and as an artist-led initiative that left a visible mark on the artistic landscape of its times.

The AIF‘s collection, at its inception was a result of the research made by artists and it led to a new type of institution with a different approach to photographic heritage. The archive has since grown to include a vast array of other collections, ranging from vernacular snapshots to formalised studio compositions.

Akram Zaatari  is a filmmaker, photographer, archival artist and curator. In 1997, he co-founded the Arab Image Foundation with photographers Fouad Elkoury, Walid Raad, and Samer Mohdad
