Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley: No Comment
Brathwaite-Shirley‘s projects focus on creating archives to document and remember Black and trans lives, often formalized as video games, but also including installations, texts, and performances. These archives are designed to capture attention and provoke thought, prompting us to reconsider our identity, intentions, and values. Her work encourages us to interpret situations and make decisions based on our self-perception and the stories presented.
Rather than instructing or evoking empathy directly, her work reflects our image back to us, leaving space for self-reflection and decision-making. In her video game “No Comment“, she uses interactive storytelling to explore how narratives of violence are perceived and shared, challenging us to consider empathy and justice for different bodies.
